Project Eagle company
Project Eagle is a US-led defense tech initiative developing AI-driven autonomous UAV and counter-UAV systems for scalable, low-cost modern warfare.
Project Eagle overview
Project Eagle is a defense technology initiative focused on developing autonomous and AI-enabled unmanned aerial systems for reconnaissance, strike, and interception missions. Founded in 2023 and later rebranded in 2024, it was initiated by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and brings together engineers from leading technology companies including Google, Apple, and SpaceX.
The project operates as an ecosystem of affiliated companies each specializing in different UAV segments such as interceptor drones, strike platforms, and AI-enabled control systems. These entities are designed to work as a unified network for rapid development and production of unmanned systems.
A key focus of Project Eagle is the creation of low-cost, mass-producible drone systems with integrated artificial intelligence for autonomous navigation, target recognition, and terminal guidance. Systems are designed for operation in GPS-denied and electronic warfare environments and are tested in real combat conditions, including active deployment in Ukraine.
The initiative emphasizes rapid field adaptation, combining battlefield feedback with industrial-scale production. Its systems include interceptor UAVs for countering loitering munitions, reconnaissance drones, and strike platforms, with ongoing development toward more advanced autonomous air defense and multi-role unmanned systems.
Project Eagle also operates through close collaboration with Ukrainian defense stakeholders, using the country as a live operational testing environment for validating performance and accelerating iteration of next-generation autonomous warfare technologies.
