Skyefish (Skyfish) company
Skyfish (formerly Skyefish) designs, manufactures and supports our entire end-to-end technology stack from hardware to software. Owning our technology stack allows us to support customers’ specific user requirements, use cases, custom integrations and scale to their needs.
Skyefish (Skyfish) overview
Skyfish, LLC is an American company servicing consumers worldwide. We specialize in unmanned aerial systems including multi-rotor drones, flight control software, and drone hardware.
Skyfish was founded in 2014 by Dr. Orest Pilskalns, CEO and John Livingston, Chairman. Dr. Pilskalns is a computer scientist, GIS expert, and Montana native. He is considered a pioneer in mapping technology and the development of digital twins in support of critical infrastructure. John Livingston built and mentored several successful technology companies, including Absolute and Telmediq acquired by K1/PerfectServe. Pilskalns and Livingston worked together on a mapping service project, GeoMonkey Inc. prior to Skyfish.
The inspection and measurement of critical infrastructure was traditionally done manually, and then using helicopters, both fraught with errors and lacked the detail engineers needed to make safe decisions. Until recently, quadcopters were not yet able to support high end sensors and data processors didn’t know how to direct pilots to take the photos at the right angles and collect the right data.
Dr. Pilskalns met Jim Reavis who saw an opportunity to improve the process with drones. Dr. Pilskalns started to design a lightweight drone, able to contour infrastructure in a way that helicopters can not, and tightly integrate the highest quality sensor so that photos could be taken and geotagged automatically at a rate that allows our photogrammetry teams to produce exceptional models.
Skyfish makes an end-to-end drone platform that includes drones (M4 and M6), an onboard computer and autonomous flight engine (Skymind), a remote controller (Skyfish C1), flight planning and navigation software (Skyfish Mission Control), and a web portal for processing, storing, viewing, and analyzing 3D models, flown images, and maps (Skyportal).
