Baba Yaga / BabaYaga overview
Baba Yaga – The Night Bomber Drone
“Baba Yaga” is the nickname used for a powerful class of Ukrainian heavy drones, created by converting agricultural multicopters into effective night bombers. These large quadcopters, hexacopters and octocopters are now widely used on the battlefield since the full-scale war began in 2022.
Equipped with thermal cameras, Baba Yaga drones can operate in complete darkness. They drop a wide range of payloads — from mortar rounds and anti-tank grenades to landmines and thermite charges. Their carrying capacity reaches up to 15–20 kg, which makes them ideal for hitting enemy equipment or fortified positions with precision.
Unlike small consumer drones that can carry less than a kilogram, these heavy-duty platforms were originally designed for spraying crops and are built to handle much more. Thanks to autopilot systems, they fly along pre-set GPS routes, and can be upgraded with radar, inertial navigation, and RTK modules to improve accuracy and resist jamming.
Despite being slow and loud, Baba Yaga drones use that noise to their advantage — creating fear and confusion during night missions. They’re also multifunctional: besides bombing, they can resupply frontline units, carry signal boosters, or even deliver smaller scout drones to the battlefield.
